In George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, there's a significant scene known as the Battle at Rook's Rest. In the book, Ser Criston Cole, who's highly respected as the leader of the Kingsguard under King Aegon II Targaryen, leads a strong army toward the important castle of Rook's Rest. However, things get complicated when Lord Staunton, who holds the castle, decides to support Rhaenyra instead of Aegon, leading him to seek her help. This sets the stage for a intense clash between the two sides, made even more complicated by the presence of dragonriders taking to the skies.
Filming for Season 2 of House of the Dragon Carries On Amidst Hollywood Strikes
During the ongoing strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA, the production of House of the Dragon Season 2 remains unaffected because the show's British cast members have agreements with the local union, Equity, allowing them to continue filming in the U.K. Furthermore, the scripts for the upcoming season were already finished before writers stopped working in May. George R.R. Martin provided an update in July and expressed support for the SAG-AFTRA strike, mentioning that the season is "half done," and as far as he knows, no writing has happened since the WGA strike began.
House of the Dragon director Clare Kilner recently reassured fans about the shorter episode count in Season 2, stating that it won't compromise the quality of the Game of Thrones spinoff. She mentioned that there are eight exciting episodes with a lot happening, sometimes making it a challenge to fit everything into one hour. Showrunner Ryan Condal's decision was to have a strong start and finish, with both episodes filled with emotional and visually captivating events. While House of the Dragon Season 1 had 10 episodes, it's worth noting that its predecessor, Game of Thrones, also adjusted its episode count over time, with Seasons 7 and 8 having seven and six episodes, respectively.
All 10 episodes of House of the Dragon Season 1 are available for streaming on Max. Season 2 does not have a confirmed release date yet but is currently scheduled for release in 2024.
