My Adventures With Superman Creators Talk Dragon Ball Z Similarities

"My Adventures With Superman" is set to be the next thrilling animated series featuring the iconic Man of Steel and his beloved companions in Metropolis. Scheduled to premiere on Adult Swim on July 7th, the show has piqued the interest of anime enthusiasts, thanks in part to its anime-inspired opening sequence. In a recent interview, one of the producers involved in the creation of this upcoming series, which centers around the lives of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen, drew a comparison between the show and the epic adventures of the Z-Fighters from "Dragon Ball Z."

Producer Jake Wyatt shed light on how the Adult Swim series' creators, much like himself, were part of the Toonami generation. He stated, "The majority of us here, including almost our entire crew, except for a few younger members, grew up during the Toonami era. Anime was a new, exciting, and fresh concept during our middle and high school years. It became readily accessible on American television for the first time ever. No longer did we have to purchase VHS tapes from dubious individuals at Otaku conventions, as some of us may have done in the past."

Wyatt further revealed that Producer Josie Campbell played a pivotal role in introducing the series' creators to the world of Dragon Ball. He stated, "Josie actually gathered the creative minds behind the show and had them watch the Dragon Ball series. Those action-packed cartoons were our personal favorites and shaped our perception of superheroes. As for the younger artists, they belong to the pirate generation, growing up in an era of boundless digital content obtained through various, and often mysterious, sources. This blend of influences is reflected in the visually captivating anime elements of our show. Additionally, Josie organized writer's room sessions where everyone gathered to enjoy the exhilarating adventures of Dragon Ball together."

Josie Campbell then expressed excitement about Clark Kent's character arc in the series, highlighting his initial underpowered state and eventual discovery of his true abilities as Krypton's Last Son, drawing parallels to Son Goku's journey in the shonen series. She remarked, "As Dragon Ball fans, there's a part of us that's absolutely thrilled. We're all for new powers and vibrant transformations. Bring on the fresh colors, man!"

In "My Adventures With Superman," Jack Quaid will portray the iconic Man of Steel, while Alice Lee will bring Lois Lane to life, and Ishmel Sahid will take on the role of Jimmy Olsen. While the series is set to premiere on Adult Swim, each episode will be available on MAX the following day. With the enduring "Goku Vs. Superman" debate remaining a staple of pop culture, this series may provide further insight into Clark's capabilities and settle some lingering questions.
