What Happens in Jujutsu Kaisen's Season 2 Opener

Jujutsu Kaisen has made its highly anticipated return with its sequel season, immersing fans once again in the captivating world of Sorcerers and Curses. Season 2 Episode 1, titled "Hidden Inventory," launched the "Gojo's Past" arc, a thrilling flashback story that delves into the school years of the beloved character, Satoru Gojo. The episode opened with Jujutsu Sorcerers Mei Mei and Utahime Iori venturing into a cursed building, where they became trapped in an endless hallway. Through quick thinking and split-second decision-making, they managed to escape the loop by sprinting in opposite directions. Upon breaking free, they encountered Shoko Ieiri, Suguru Geto, and the revered Satoru Gojo.

Following this introduction, Gojo and his comrades were summoned by Principal Yaga, who reprimanded them for a recent mission mishap. However, the principal soon entrusted Gojo and Geto with a crucial assignment: safeguarding a young girl who would serve as the vessel for Tengen, a formidable barrier user. Tengen requires a new host to rejuvenate their Cursed Technique cycle since their immortality leads to a loss of self when they live for too long. Determined, Gojo and Geto embarked on their mission to protect the girl, but encountered a group of adversaries intent on thwarting Tengen's revival. The episode concluded by introducing the menacing antagonist, Toji Fushiguro.

Jujutsu Kaisen, a highly acclaimed manga written by Gege Akutami, has achieved great success as a top-rated series serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. The anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA, which premiered in 2020, propelled the franchise to even greater heights, making it one of the industry's best-selling animanga properties. The debut of Season 2 was met with such overwhelming popularity that it caused the Crunchyroll site to crash temporarily. Jujutsu Kaisen is often associated with Hell's Paradise and Chainsaw Man, forming the "Dark Shonen Trio," a trio of influential modern properties renowned for their intense action and violence. The manga recently resumed publication after a short hiatus, with Chapter 227 released on July 2, 2023.

In addition to the anime series, the franchise expanded with a prequel movie called Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which has secured a spot among the top 10 highest-grossing Japanese movies of all time. The film follows the story of Yuta Okkotsu, a young man who enrolls at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School in order to learn how to control the Cursed Spirit inhabiting his childhood friend, Rika. Yuta is set to make his debut in the anime's TV series during Season 2.

Fans can look forward to Episode 2, titled "Hidden Inventory 2," which will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll on July 13, 2023. Both Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 are currently available for streaming on the same platform, offering viewers a comprehensive experience of the franchise.
