Jack Quaid Describes My Adventures With Superman as the 'Flip Side' of The Boys

Actor Jack Quaid praises the "earnest and heartwarming" nature of My Adventures With Superman and reflects on how it contrasts with the darkly satirical tone of Prime Video's The Boys. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Quaid discusses the appeal of the new anime-inspired DC show and its departure from the snarky atmosphere of The Boys. He expresses his admiration for the genuine and sincere approach of My Adventures With Superman, stating, "I feel fortunate to be a part of superhero projects like The Boys, but what I truly love about this show is its earnest and heartwarming quality. It's the complete opposite of The Boys in that sense. It's honest, genuine, and devoid of any cynicism."

Quaid also contemplates how his character from The Boys, Hughie Campbell, might respond to My Adventures With Superman. He suggests that Hughie would find elements in the show reminiscent of Starlight, a character on The Boys who embodies genuine altruism and maintains a strong moral compass. Quaid imagines Hughie and Starlight watching the show together and contemplating the possibility of a world that reflects the sincerity and goodness portrayed in My Adventures With Superman.

The charming and sincere nature of My Adventures With Superman, in contrast to The Boys' satirical approach, offers viewers a refreshing and heartfelt take on the superhero genre.

Superman Heads to Adult Swim

Originally greenlit for Cartoon Network, My Adventures With Superman was moved to Adult Swim's late-night programming block in March, joining other cartoons like Genndy Tartakovsky's Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. This decision was made in the aftermath of Warner Bros. Discovery's restructuring in 2022, which involved the cancellation of several projects, including the shelving of Scoob! Holiday Haunt and the removal of 36 shows from its then-streaming service HBO Max. Among the series that were taken off HBO Max were beloved animated shows such as Infinity Train, OK K.O.! – Let’s Be Heroes, and Uncle Grandpa, which were originally aired on HBO Max and Cartoon Network.

Leading up to its highly anticipated release, producers Jake Wyatt and Josie Campbell emphasized the outstanding voice work of Quaid, highlighting his impeccable comedic timing as one of the key attractions of My Adventures With Superman. The show's first two episodes premiered on July 7 to critical acclaim, with reviewers praising its exceptional animation, stellar performances, and the engaging friendship/romantic chemistry between the reimagined characters of Clark, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. The action sequences received high praise, with reviewers describing them as visually captivating and easy to follow. These sequences showcase Superman's evolving abilities as a reflection of his personal journey, adding an extra layer of depth to the show.

In addition to the success of My Adventures With Superman, The CW renewed Superman & Lois for a fourth season, albeit with a reduced episode count and significant changes to its supporting cast. Furthermore, director James Gunn recently announced the casting of David Corenswet (known for his role in The Politician) as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan (renowned for her performance in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane in the upcoming DCU film, Superman: Legacy.

Viewers can now catch My Adventures With Superman on Adult Swim, where it continues to captivate audiences with its exciting storytelling and beloved characters.
