Disney Speedstorm Announces Full Release Date

Disney Speedstorm entered early access a few months ago, launching on April 18 as a kart racer featuring a diverse roster of 24 characters from across the Disney universe. These include beloved characters such as Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, Jack Sparrow, and Hercules. Gameloft, the development team behind the game, has recently announced that Disney Speedstorm will have its full release on September 28, becoming available on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC platforms. Alongside this release date, Gameloft has revealed that the game will adopt a free-to-play model, although players can still purchase a Founder's Pack until late September.

The transition to free-to-play is a strategic move that has been anticipated for some time. This decision is crucial for the future success of Speedstorm as it initially received mixed reviews from critics and experienced lukewarm sales. Gameloft acknowledges that this shift "will also allow for more players to share in a fully robust competitive and co-op racing experience." Essentially, the aim is to attract a larger player base by removing the entry barrier.

If the transition to a free-to-play model proves successful, Disney Speedstorm has the potential to experience a revitalization. As previously mentioned, players still have the option to purchase the various Founder's Packs, but it's important to note that these will no longer be available after September 28. Currently, all the passes are discounted, making it a favorable time to take advantage of early access and additional bonuses. Each pass includes a specific amount of Credits and Tokens, as well as unlocked racers, allowing players to access certain characters more quickly compared to unlocking them in the base game. The discounted prices range from a 20-30% reduction, although it is unclear whether the sale will continue until the packs are discontinued or if it will end before September.

However, purchasing the Founder's Packs is not necessary unless you are eager to get early access and additional content. The full release of Disney Speedstorm, as a free-to-play game, is scheduled for September 28. While Gameloft has not confirmed whether new content will be launched alongside the full release, it wouldn't be unexpected if a few new characters were introduced in September to commemorate the occasion.
