The CW recently made announcements regarding the fate of two series that were awaiting renewal or cancellation. They confirmed that both Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming will be returning for new seasons. However, these renewals come at a significant cost. Following the news of Superman & Lois' fourth season renewal, it was disclosed that budget constraints have resulted in certain stars being downgraded to lesser roles, possibly recurring roles. Now, it has been revealed that All American: Homecoming will face a similar situation. According to TV Line, Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will not be returning as series regulars due to stringent budget cuts at the network. Jenrette has been confirmed to recur as Amara Patterson, while Smith's future as Damson Sims remains uncertain. The report mentioned that Smith might recur as Damson Sims, but no official agreement has been made yet.
What is the All American Franchise About?
All American made its debut back in 2018 and draws inspiration from the life of professional football player Spencer Paysinger. The series centers around a talented young athlete who leaves his old neighborhood behind to join Beverly Hills High School's football team, giving rise to cultural, social, and sporting conflicts. After gaining immense popularity over the years, All American received a spinoff called All American: Homecoming, which premiered on the network in 2021.
Set within the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) experience at Bringston University, All American: Homecoming revolves around Simone (portrayed by Geffri Maya from All American), a promising tennis player from Beverly Hills who strives to reclaim her greatness after a hiatus, and Damon (played by Peyton Alex Smith from Legacies), an exceptional baseball player burdened by tremendous pressure from his surroundings.
Recently, All American: Homecoming Season 2 concluded its second season on The CW, with episodes airing alongside All American Season 5.
