WWE has been teasing a potential third match between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar, which is rumored to take place at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view next month. Tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw is expected to lay the groundwork for this highly anticipated showdown. According to Dave Meltzer from The Wrestling Observer, Lesnar is reportedly in Baltimore for tonight's Raw, and it is likely that the angle for the rubber match will unfold during the show. Furthermore, it has been speculated that the third encounter will feature a unique stipulation rarely seen in WWE.
The intense rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar ignited on the night following WrestleMania 39. Lesnar surprisingly agreed to team up with Rhodes in a match against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa. However, just as the introductions were being made, Lesnar shockingly attacked "The American Nightmare." While Lesnar's motives were never fully explained, Rhodes managed to overcome the odds and emerge victorious at Backlash in Puerto Rico. Enraged by his defeat, Lesnar subsequently targeted Rhodes, breaking his arm (in storyline) after a series of brutal assaults. Lesnar exploited this injury to his advantage and secured a triumph in their rematch at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. In response, Rhodes issued an open challenge for a decisive encounter, but Lesnar has been conspicuously absent ever since.
Cody Rhodes on Facing Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam
"I would absolutely love it if Brock Lesnar decided to make a return," Rhodes expressed in an interview with Ariel Helwani (h/t WrestlingNews.co) following his victory over Dominik Mysterio at Money in the Bank. "But honestly, I don't think it's going to happen. Initially, we had discussions about me being present in every city, and I provided him with my schedule, including the dates for July. I might post those dates again soon. However, Brock's annual hiatus is unpredictable. I'm not implying that Brock is afraid of facing me because, let's be real, Brock Lesnar isn't afraid of anyone. He's Brock Lesnar. But he might not have the desire to step back into the ring."
"He defeated me at Night of Champions, and many people prefer to leave on a high note. It's possible that this was the end of the road for Brock. However, personally, I find it strange to conclude our rivalry with just one match. If Brock doesn't return, it raises a more intriguing question of what lies ahead and who will be my next opponent," Rhodes further elaborated.
