Emilia Clarke, star of Secret Invasion, has challenged criticisms suggesting that the extensive use of green screens in the Disney+ miniseries hampers the performances of its cast.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Clarke disputed the notion that the presence of visual effects diminishes the quality of acting in shows like Secret Invasion. She argued, "The stigma is that people don't do any acting in these shows [because of all the green screens]. But then you're like, 'Well, then why are they asking all these great actors to do it, and why are they saying yes?'" Clarke's perspective is informed by her own experiences in productions such as Game of Thrones, Terminator Genisys, and Solo: A Star Wars Story, which extensively utilized green screen technology.
However, it should be noted that Clarke's involvement in Secret Invasion may not extend for the entirety of the series. Her character, G'iah, is shown being shot and seemingly killed by the main antagonist Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) in Episode 3, titled "Betrayed." This development suggests that Clarke may not have participated in the principal photography for the remaining three episodes. Nonetheless, this is currently speculative, as Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed whether G'iah's fate truly ends there or if she managed to survive her fatal wounds.
Secret Invasion Teases its Biggest Twist Yet
In addition to G'iah's apparent demise, "Betrayed," the latest episode of Secret Invasion, introduces another shocking development. Strong implications suggest that a Skrull has covertly replaced James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle). If these suspicions prove true, it will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge for protagonist Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), as Rhodey not only serves as the pilot of the War Machine armor but also acts as an advisor to the U.S. President. The circumstances surrounding Rhodey's potential Skrull infiltration, including how and when it occurred, remain undisclosed for now.
However, the third episode of Secret Invasion doesn't just introduce new mysteries; it also provides some answers to lingering questions from the previous episode, "Promises." One such question revolves around whether Fury is aware that his wife, Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard), is actually a Skrull. Director Ali Selim discussed the ambiguity surrounding the Priscilla/Fury dynamic in a recent interview, revealing that the uncertainty regarding Nick's knowledge of his wife's true nature was introduced during the editing process. "In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn't know. We ultimately edited it in a way that made people feel like, 'I wonder if he knows or not,'" Selim explained.
