Jughead Jones is gearing up for an unconventional battle—far from the traditional conflicts we're used to seeing. The CW has unveiled a fresh synopsis for "Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Three: Stag," the sixteenth episode of Riverdale's seventh and final season. In this thrilling installment, Jughead finds himself embroiled in a fierce confrontation with Dr. Werthers, not on a battlefield, but within the realm of comic books. Throughout the season, the enigmatic child psychologist has been waging a crusade against comic books, convinced that they are corrupting the minds of America's youth. In a recent episode, his campaign reached a disturbing climax when he persuaded teenagers at Riverdale High to relinquish their beloved comics, only to have the nefarious duo of the doctor and the principal burn them. Now, Jughead, who has been passionately writing comics for Pep, is ready to clash head-on with his ideological adversary. Brace yourself for an epic showdown that transcends the pages of ink and paper. Take a look at the episode synopsis below for a sneak peek into the gripping storyline.
"CURIOUS MINDS — Veronica (Camila Mendes) sets up a screening at the Babylonium after Julian (guest star Nicholas Barasch) gets his hands on a stag film and invites Archie (KJ Apa), Reggie (Charles Melton) and the guys over for a watch party. Betty (Lili Reinhart) unexpectedly reunites with Polly (guest star Tiera Skovbye) and learns about her sister's new life in New York. Elsewhere, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) goes to war with Dr. Werthers (guest star Malcolm Stewart) over his censure of comic books. Madelaine Petsch, Madchen Amick, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, and Drew Ray Tanner also star. Rob Seidenglanz directed the episode written by Ryan Terrebonne."
Fan Favorite Star Not Returning For Riverdale's Final Season
While the latest synopsis unveils Tiera Skovbye's return as Polly Cooper in the final season of Riverdale, it also brings disappointing news for fans of Skeet Ulrich's portrayal of F.P. Jones. Madchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper in the series, recently disclosed that Ulrich will not be reprising his role before the show concludes.
"He was actually invited to come back, and the initial plan was for him to return," Amick revealed. "Unfortunately, things didn't work out as expected... Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] had intended to bring back as many cast members as possible for the final season. There was even an episode dedicated to his character, but it didn't come to fruition."
Ulrich bid farewell to Riverdale during Season 5 when F.P. left the iconic Town With Pep to relocate to Toledo alongside Jughead's younger sister, Jellybean. His decision to depart was announced in the midst of Season 4, with Ulrich candidly expressing during an Instagram live session that he felt creatively unfulfilled and bored with the series.
Riverdale Recently Wrapped Filming on its Final Season
With the approaching series finale of Riverdale, set to air on August 23rd, the show has recently wrapped up its production. Towards the end of last month, the official Archie Comics Twitter account announced the completion of filming, followed by an emotional farewell from Camila Mendes, the star portraying Veronica Lodge.
Mendes took to social media, sharing a heartfelt goodbye to both the series and her beloved character. Alongside a broken heart emoji, she wrote, "That's a wrap on Veronica. There are no words or photos that can fully capture the emotional experience of filming our final episode of Riverdale. It's not just bidding farewell to a TV show; it's bidding farewell to an entire life I created in Vancouver—a transformative period that shaped me into the person I am today. It's saying goodbye to a community of people who have witnessed both my best and worst moments during these intense seven seasons. No matter how prepared you may be for moving on, goodbyes are undeniably painful, and parting ways with this show will undoubtedly be a grieving process for all of us."
Mendes expressed her gratitude to the dedicated fans who have supported her throughout this journey, showering her with gifts, flowers, balloons, handmade art, and heartfelt letters. She emphasized her endless appreciation for their unwavering love for Veronica. She also acknowledged the remarkably hardworking crew members, her incredibly talented co-stars who have become like family, and the legendary showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Mendes professed her love for them all, recognizing the immense effort and time devoted to the show. She cherished the precious memories created and acknowledged the bittersweet feeling of bidding farewell to the triumphs, defeats, highs, and lows that come with making network television.
