Mortal Kombat 2 Officially Begins Filming

Production on Mortal Kombat 2 has commenced in Australia, with filming officially underway. This confirmation came from producer James Wan, who shared the news on his Instagram Story. Earlier in the week, Todd Garner, another producer on the film, had already hinted at the start of filming by sharing a cast seat for the character Baraka. While a release date for Mortal Kombat 2 has not been announced yet, fans can anticipate that the project will move forward swiftly now that production is in progress.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to continue the story shortly after the events of the 2021 live-action reboot of Mortal Kombat. The film introduced popular characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Jax, and Raiden to audiences. While the movie primarily focused on the new character Cole Young, who discovers his heritage as a descendant of Scorpion and joins Raiden's warriors to defend Earthrealm, it ended with Earthrealm emerging victorious over Shang Tsung's Outworld warriors. As preparations for the next tournament begin, both Raiden and Shang Tsung plan to recruit additional warriors, with Johnny Cage being Raiden's next chosen ally.

As of now, specific details about the storyline of Mortal Kombat 2 have been kept under wraps. However, it's worth noting that Johnny Cage, a prominent character from the 1995 Mortal Kombat film, was notably absent from the recent reboot. In the sequel, actor Karl Urban has been cast as Johnny Cage, and it's highly likely that he will have a significant role in the movie. The upcoming film will feature the return of several Kombatants from the first installment, along with the introduction of beloved Mortal Kombat characters who did not appear previously. Alongside Karl Urban, new additions to the cast include Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Ngyen as Queen Sindel, and Martyn Ford as Shao Khan.
