Michael Imperioli Clarifies Comments Forbidding Bigots From Watching The Sopranos

Michael Imperioli, known for his roles in The Sopranos and White Lotus, has recently addressed his comments about excluding bigots from watching any projects he is involved in.

Michael Imperioli, renowned for his iconic performances in The Sopranos and White Lotus, shared a statement this week regarding his stance on bigotry and homophobia, urging those individuals to refrain from engaging with The Sopranos, White Lotus, and any other movies or shows he is associated with. In an effort to provide further context, he took to Instagram on Wednesday to elaborate on his statement.

"I've decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas, or any movie or TV show I’ve been in. Thank you, Supreme Court, for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to," Last week, Michael Imperioli took to Instagram once again to provide additional clarity on his previous statement. The acclaimed actor, known for his role in The Sopranos, explained that his initial post aimed to satirize the Supreme Court's ruling by employing irony and "banning" homophobes and bigots. He emphasized his belief in religious freedom and the pursuit of happiness, asserting that these fundamental ideals should be accessible to all individuals, irrespective of their religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation.

The Supreme Court's ruling in 303 Creative v. Elenis has garnered significant attention for its impact on the rights of individuals who refuse services to same-sex couples based on religious beliefs. The decision concluded that a Colorado anti-discrimination law, which prohibits denying goods, services, or facilities based on various protected characteristics including sexual orientation, would impede the petitioner's religious liberties and freedom of speech if she were compelled to create a website expressing views contrary to her own. Interestingly, the "dispute" at hand was purely hypothetical, as petitioner Lorie Smith has never professionally created a website that promotes values conflicting with her religious or ideological beliefs.

Michael Imperioli, renowned for his staunch support of the LGBTQ+ community and vocal opposition to systemic racism, has consistently displayed his progressive beliefs. Throughout the pandemic, he gained a devoted following on Instagram, where he shared his insights on diverse topics such as COVID, Buddhism (his chosen religion), and his favorite post-punk bands. Consequently, The Sopranos star has garnered newfound admiration from an entire generation that may not have witnessed his remarkable performance on the celebrated HBO series.

Fans can now enjoy Michael Imperioli's captivating performances on The Sopranos and White Lotus, both available for streaming on HBO Max.
