Jujutsu Kaisen Has Sold 80 Million Copies Ahead of Season 2

In the case of most anime franchises, the release of an anime adaptation often leads to a significant surge in manga sales. The overall sales tend to fluctuate depending on the reception of the adaptation, as seen in popular Shonen series like My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer. These two franchises experienced a substantial increase in sales following their television debuts. Now, Jujutsu Kaisen has set a new record as fans eagerly await the arrival of its second season on the small screen next month.

Before diving into the manga's sales, it's worth revisiting Jujutsu Kaisen's anime history. The first season, produced by Studio MAPPA renowned for their works like Attack on Titan Season 4, Hell's Paradise, and Chainsaw Man, garnered significant attention. Additionally, the supernatural shonen series expanded its reach with a feature-length film titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Despite not featuring the series' protagonist, Yuji Itadori, the prequel movie delved into the story of Yuta Okkotsu and became one of the most popular anime films of all time. Now, with the second season slated to premiere on July 6th, the franchise will once again transport viewers to the past by exploring Gojo's early days as a student at Jujutsu Tech.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Manga Juggernaut

According to a recent report from Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga series of Jujutsu Kaisen has achieved a circulation of eighty million copies. To put this into perspective, other popular manga series like My Hero Academia boasts eighty-five million copies in circulation, Fullmetal Alchemist has eighty million, and Yu Yu Hakusho has seventy-eight million. Considering that Jujutsu Kaisen has released twenty-three volumes since its debut, this milestone is truly remarkable.

Jujutsu Kaisen made its debut in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018, followed by its anime adaptation arriving just two years later in 2020. Wasting no time, it quickly established itself as a major player in the anime world. Undoubtedly, the anime's immense popularity has greatly influenced the sales of the manga. As the manga series approaches its conclusion, as mentioned by creator Gege Akutami, there are numerous significant moments and battles that could potentially spawn future seasons and movies.
